The End of the Golden Age of Piracy

It was announced that this year's Mist to Mews race will be the last, after 35 years! The theme was "Pirates of the Canoe-ibbean" so my son Ian and I grabbed our pirate costumes from a few years back and decided to take the new (to us) tandem kayak. We even added some new accessories thanks to a last-minute effort by my wife. There was a bit of an easterly wind, but it wasn't too bad and we made pretty good time, finishing in about 90 minutes. We appeared to be the first sit-on-top kayak to finish, and there weren't many vessels of any type ahead. This year because the event got rescheduled due to a nor'easter, the chip timing company that provided the race results couldn't make it so we don't know exactly how we placed, but it's a fun time for a good cause (Wounded Warrior) and we will miss it!
